When my client first reached out, her message struck a chord. It wasn’t just about booking a photo session. It was about capturing something deeply personal. She wrote:

"I want to capture the stage I’m living — the quiet bloom after a long way. To preserve in photos this moment where I feel whole, proud, and at peace with who I am. This is my time :)"

That line — this is my time — stayed with me. From that moment, I knew this wouldn’t be a typical photo shoot. It would be a creative collaboration.

Starting with a Discovery Call

We began with a video call to get to know each other. These calls are a standard part of my process — a space to connect, brainstorm ideas, and understand the story behind the photos.

She told me about what this stage in her life meant. After going through some personal changes, she finally felt grounded again — confident and in tune with herself. The session was was about marking a milestone in her life with intention.

We talked mood, message, and inspiration. I shared a few location ideas, while she showed me some visual references she had in mind. We discussed outfits and colors that could match the atmosphere she wanted to create.

The whole process felt like planning a small creative project together — both of us bringing ideas, refining them, and building something shared.

Location: Playa La Laja – A Bold and Wild Backdrop

For this editorial style photoshoot in Gran Canaria, I suggested Playa La Laja, a striking beach just 10–15 minutes by car from Las Palmas. It’s a popular location among locals and surfers, known for its dramatic cliffs and natural pool.

The contrast of black rock and soft ocean light felt very beautiful and minimalistic — just right for the strength and calm she wanted to express.

She decided to wear a white suit: simple, clean, and powerful. The moment I saw the outfit against the backdrop, I knew we had made the right choice. The combination of minimal styling and raw nature made the whole scene feel like a magazine editorial.

I created a moodboard — not to copy exact poses, but to set the tone. A general visual direction that could guide us on the day. This helps clients feel prepared, especially those who are a bit nervous. It gives us both something to refer to while leaving room for improvisation and real emotion.

On the Day of the Shoot

When we met in person, there was no awkwardness. Thanks to our call and prep, we already knew each other. That comfort matters — it’s what allows someone to relax in front of the camera.

The session lasted about an hour. Playa La Laja was nearly empty. The sound of waves and wind became our soundtrack. There were no forced poses. I gave gentle directions but mostly let her move naturally.

We explored different parts of the beach — standing on black rocks, walking along the shoreline, leaning against the cliff wall. Every shot had a feeling of simplicity and confidence.

Why This Was More Than Just a Photoshoot

Yes, we captured beautiful images. But more than that, we created a space where she could show up as herself — no expectations, no pressure to perform. Just being.

For many people, especially women, photo sessions can feel intimidating. We’re used to seeing idealized versions of beauty. This session was a reminder that confidence comes from within — and when we feel safe and seen, it shows.

That’s why an editorial style photoshoot in Gran Canaria can be so powerful. It’s not about faking perfection. It’s about creating honest, strong, and stylish images that reflect who you are.

What Makes an Editorial Style Photoshoot Different?

An editorial session focuses on mood and message, not just smiles. It combines storytelling, styling, and direction to create a consistent visual language. Here's what sets it apart:

  • Intentional concept: Every session starts with a conversation. We define the emotional tone and purpose of the images.

  • Creative direction: Instead of generic poses, we explore how movement, space, and light can support the story.

  • Visual consistency: Colors, locations, and outfits are chosen to align with a specific style — often minimalistic and cinematic.

  • Natural flow: The shoot feels like a collaboration, not a performance. The goal is authenticity, not perfection.

Why Gran Canaria Is Perfect for Editorial Photography

Gran Canaria has more variety in its landscapes than most people expect. That’s why I love it for editorial work. In one island, you get:

  • Beaches with black or golden sand

  • Rugged cliffs and rocky coastlines

  • Forests and green hills

  • Old towns with texture and character

This allows us to pick a location that actually adds meaning to your story, rather than just being a backdrop.
